To reduce erosion into our streams, GRI has hydrologically disconnected 53% of our road network. This work includes out-sloping roads and removing or replacing undersized culverts.
This old stream crossing with an undersized culvert was likely to clog and wash out the fill, harming the fishery below.
Excavators remove 1,300 cubic yards of dirt and dump trucks haul it to a stable site.
The stream has been restored and the road abandoned. This project was a cooperative effort with the Gualala River Watershed Council and the California Department of Fish and Game.
